When it comes to Vitamin C, most organisms are natural born vitamin manufacturers.  Interestingly, the notable exception to this rule is human beings.  The human body is unable to manufacture Vitamin C and as a result we must find ways to supplement our diet.  That sounds like a business opportunity for private label vitamin manufacturers!

The affects of this human vitamin manufacturing deficiency were first notably documented during the early years of long distance sea voyage.  The lack of vitamin C in sailor’s diets commonly caused scurvy.   Ship captains with first solved this problem by stocking ships with oranges.

Adequate levels of Vitamin C are essential to the development and maintenance of scar tissue, blood vessels, and cartilage.   Many people swear by vitamin C’s affect on their skin, as it is believed to be a highly effective antioxidant.

Interestingly, the daily requirement amount of vitamin C is a matter of on-going debate.  This uncertainty may be the reason many contract vitamin manufacturers advertise their products incredibly high levels of vitamin C’s power to combat the common cold!
